Relatives of Warren William, movie star, pictured from left to right: Patricia Lyon, Tom and Marcia Hasskamp and Barbara Lyon Hall
On the evenings of April 9th and 10th we hosted a movie screening featuring Aitkin's own Hollywood star, Warren William in the films that made him world famous. We had a good turnout - 20 people came Monday night to watch "The Mouthpiece" and word must have gotten around, because 30 people enjoyed watching "The Dark Horse" on Tuesday night. Both films were released in 1932. Attendees were served coffee, water, pop, popcorn, pretzels, cheese curls, cookies and candy.
Warren William biographer John Stangeland introduced the films and answered questions, talked about Aitkin history and signed his book, "Warren William:Magnificent Scoundrel of Pre-Code Hollywood."Warren William (Krech) family members (in above photograph) were on hand to discuss their famous uncle!

Here is a postcard of the First Congregational Church in Aitkin; the postcard is dated 1914. The church still exists today with its original pipe organ and beautiful stained glass windows. Click on the photo to see an enlargement.
The Historical Society has started working on a book about Aitkin County churches. Please contact us if you have pictures and information to help with this project.
We will be featuring a photo from the past on the home page on a regular basis. If you have an old photo to share, we would love to see it.
