Richard Aulie

Welcome to the Great River Strings Website

Great River String Ensemble hired Rich Aulie in January 2000 to be the Conductor and  Musical Director for the group.  Rich graduated from Gustavus Adolphus with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1975.  He went on to achieve a master’s degree in conducting from the University of Denver in 1978.  While there he also served as the assistant conductor for the Lamont Chorale. 

In 1979 he became music instructor with the Crosby-Ironton School District in Crosby, MN where he was band director for 5 years.  The next 20 years he taught music at the Crosby Elementary.   At present he serves as the High School Band Director. 

 Rich plays every kind of keyboard but piano is his main instrument.  He composed three new works for the Great River Strings describing the Cuyuna Range before it was populated  by the white man.  In November 2008 his "Come Sweet Death" (Finale from"The Milford Mine Disaster") was performed at our "Bach to the Future" Concert.  Rich also serves as choir director and part time organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and is the Coach of the CI  boy’s golf team.
