Riverboat Heritage Days July 13-17, 2005 Aitkin became a major riverboat transportation center in the 1870s where the rail from Duluth met the Mississippi. Each year, the community celebrates its tie with the colorful riverboat era during Aitkin's Riverboat Heritage Days.
